Have you ever wanted to do Life Drawing but weren't quite sure what goes on  behind those closed doors?

Or did you finally muster the courage AND all the materials, then attend a session only to find there was no tutor and everyone there seemed to know what they were doing but no one was telling?

Life Drawing is one of the best tools for learning observation, which helps in whatever art medium you practice.   Halina has designed a series of workshops that teach many observation skills, with a drawing implement in your hand.   There are many different ways of representing the human body in an artistic manner.   Your own creative style of representation will emerge and develop after learning thorough observation and drawing skills, using a variety of tools and mediums.

The first workshop in this series of four on March 27th 2021 involves very little, if any, line.     Shapes emerge by finding different tones, edges, shadows and negative areas using blocks of charcoal or graphite.  Fun exercises gradually train your brain to see differently.   Slowly throughout the process you learn to 'draw what you see not what you think you see' as the common saying goes.

Each full day workshop has structured, scaffolded learning in the first half with many helpful tricks and tools.   After a healthy lunch that is provided, the second half of the day uses a live model during which time you will experience the format of traditional life drawing sessions but with the benefit of personal tuition and guidance throughout.

Materials needed are willow charcoal (thick sticks or blocks), compressed charcoal block, conte block or graphite block.   Not pencils.  Sketchbook minimum size A3 (one size larger than A4).  Erasers (Kneadable and hard) .

Cost for the day is $95 which includes morning and afternoon tea and a healthy gluten free lunch.  Fimal payment directly into the account below is required at least a week beforehand.   This gives relaxed time before the workshop to have a chat and a cuppa.

Arrive 10am for a 10.30am start.

Here’s what some of the happy participants from this workshop earlier this year had to say…

Transformative

Completely changed my ideas about using charcoal and the techniques for using it.

Very supportive, good instruction about what seems to be very complex concepts.

I wanted to modify my approach to life drawing as I felt I was on the wrong track to achieve what I wanted. This has changed my ideas and I need a lot more practice

Best part was interaction with Halina

Too many yummy things to eat.

Good to be pushed to use medium differently

Very useful

Challenging

Learnt to get a strong edge and tonal value quickly and effectively

Individual feedback was good and beautiful examples

Catering was excellent

A very good learning experience using charcoal, learning tonal values

Excellent experience

Great scaffolded learning and very well organised

Loved the relaxed group

Very relaxing

Small group is good, more time for each person

Great examples

Halina is very positive and encouraging

Very beautiful food

I learnt shading, even as the model, with awareness of light and dark.

Loved witnessing people learning
